Potency
Potency determines the amount of damage our actions and effects deal.
Potency is usually figured by calculating a percentage of an attribute and adding any additional Potency.
Potency may be a Variable Check, such as ≺(2v:10)⪧
Potency may also be a Static Value, such as ≺(17)⪧
Potency may also be a Percentage of an Attribute, such as ≺(15%)⪧ Strength ⪼:
Multiple forms of Potency may be present in the same line, such as ≺(2v:10)+(17)+(15%)⪧ Strength ⪼:
We always use (Variable)(Static)(Percentage) as the order for this to prevent confusion.
Damage always rounds up unless it is any value less than .5 (.49999~)
Any Value less than 0.5 is treated as Zero/0.
Focal Potency
Focal Potency is applied to the result of the base Potency.
Focal Potency is 100% unless influenced by an Action or Effect.
Only the single highest Bonus Focal Potency is applied.
Only the single lowest Penalty Focal Potency is applied, after the Bonus Focal Potency.
All Bonuses and Penalties still remain on the character’s Status Card for their Durations. These effects do not stack.
Applying Focal Potency is multiplicative but figuring total Focal Potency is additive.
Focal Potency Example
Beat deals 5% of Strength as Blunt Force Trauma.
With a Strength of 100, the Potency of the action is 5.
You have Bonus Focal Potency equal to +20%, making your Focal Potency 120%. Your final Potency is 6.
Now, you have a -50% Penalty applied to your Focal Potency. Both the Highest Bonus (+20%) and the Lowest Bonus (-50%) are figured together.
If base Potency is 100%, then your Bonus of 20% is added making Focal Potency Total 120%,
then the Lowest Bonus of -50% is applied making the Focal Potency Total 70%.
70% of our 5 Damage Potency is 3.5 (5×0.70), and since we round up .5 and above, the Final Potency is 4.
