Belief

Root Effect • Passive • Mitigation

Belief, well, we may have more than one Belief.

Passive Mitigation

When an outside source is attempting to convince you of something contrary to what you believe, you simply cannot be swayed by mundane actions and effects.

Responsive Action

A character may spend 10 Potential and immediately gain immunity to a mundane mind influencing effect. While they hold on to the belief, they cannot be swayed.

Rescission

When a character decides to discard Belief, they may go through a period of doubt. Identity crisis is a tough choice to go through. We recommend during the Rescission period, the character be played appropriately.

Story Guide’s Notes

During playtests, we found some of our players would hold on to spare potential to counter certain actions and effects. Sudden growth should be allowed if they have the Potential to spend.

We really enjoyed one instance where one of our player’s character was given a mission and as the player navigated the situation, after another player pointed out a serious flaw in the moment, they decided they wanted a way out but didn’t see their character as making the change.

Spending 10 Points of Potential on Belief gave a good mechanical reason for them to ride the Meta of the moment.

Belief is as much a tool to stand firm on something our character already believes, as it is to make a decision of integrity in the moment to overcome often unseen pressure.

Belief is still really strong, especially as an effect selection for our Supporting Characters. Most of my merchants have it on their list of Actions and Effects, because, no, it doesn’t matter how convincing our characters are, they still have to pay for the things they want in the store.

If you stumbled here by accident, that’s all gravy. We use these pages in our archives as templates, style guides, reference content, and reusable assets. I’m also getting to write the FAQ, which is fun.
